Wetland Info...

 

 

1. Weed Control

In November, DOC and Horizons will be clearing invasive weeds from the banks of the stream. This will be repeated in In October 2017 as needed.
Also in November there will be a public weeding day organised by Castlecliff Coast Care.

2. Channel Clearance

In December, Wanganui Alliance will clear weed and logs from selected spots of the stream to improve the flow and make better fish habitat.
This will be repeated in July 2017, and annually as needed.

​

3. Streamside Planting

In Spring 2017, there will be a public planting day of local native plants in Site 1.
This will be repeated in sites 2 and 3 in 2018 and 2019. Volunteers will be organised to help care for planting sites as needed.

Friends of Karaka Wetland is a community group of people interested in caring for the wetland and channel in Castlecliff, preserving it as a habitat for native species, and improving it as a public amenity.
